CONCLUSION

Know that the travellers in God’s path have spent periods of time in the madrasas at the service of the ‘Ulamā’, in study and repetition. Then they went from the madrasa to the khānaqāh and spent periods of time at the service of the shaykhs in ascetic discipline and religious effort. They supposed that they had become wise men and they wrote books on the gnosis about God and the gnosis of His creation. They took many students and were busy in training them. After all of this, they knew for sure that they had understood nothing and through verification they confirmed their ignorance and renounced those books.

O dervish! Whoever has understood God as God really is cannot have understood incapacity to attain comprehension is comprehension itself.85

The person whose realisation and knowledge reaches the point that he knows the things as they are cannot be known in truth is a wise man:

The path to the reality of eternity is open to no one

And not one person is aware of the secrets of the spheres.

Yet each person voices an opinion about this hidden secret,

And their opinions were neither clear nor brief!
